Who are we?
The first municipal council was established in 1912 under the name of Madaba Municipality, and in 2000 it became known as Greater Madaba Municipality. Its area is 450 km2², while the area of the organized area is about 45 km2², and its population is about 173,304 people. The municipality is managed by the Municipal Council, which has 14 members, including the mayor. The municipality includes five vital sectors: the urban planning and strategic development sector for local economic development, the works and services sector, the financial and administrative affairs and institutional development sector, the health, environmental and agricultural sector, and the communication and community outreach sector. The municipality performs 28 tasks and duties according to Local Administration Law No. 22 of 2021. This law gives the municipality the authority to establish a private company in the name of the municipality to serve its community by increasing the municipality's revenues to promote the development of the local community and improve its services. The municipality also has a court that aims to collect the municipality's rights, taxes and fees due from citizens, and by a legal arm to resolve all issues related to citizens' activities.
